by Geri Caswell We get many questions on this, and it’s one that needs to be asked. A written legacy is a gift; one that you give to those who wish to remember you, and enjoy the things you want to share.
Of course, it can also be something more than a writing. It can be money, or property, or your very special jewelry or many other things that is transferred to you and granted by a will. What is written in your legacy is all about life and love. It is an account learned from the past, or the present, and of course, the future. It is your legacy and it will be done your way. Your childhood, your parents, family, schooling, trips, special events, and the awards you earned. It can be like writing your memoir, and follow that style, complete with feelings, memories and intentions. Document one part of your life, or even one day, or month, or year. The only requirement is that it be positively factual with a specified timeline. If it is fiction, then it is a story. Even if it becomes a story, that is ok, just don’t try to have it published claiming it is a true story. We can do it up as a biography, the factual telling of one person’s painful or glorious period of their life that shows from start to at least, the current time . . . Did you become a wealthy person who is famous? Did you start a business and have it grow and grow? Or a writer, actress, football hero, then tell how you got there. Don’t be shy. Tell it like it happened. Was there a difficult period in your life? How did you handle that? Your legacy story is not all sweet. To be human is to live. To live is to experience all the comes your way. And share it. Tell your family what your life has been, the winners you experienced, and the battles you’ve won. Tell them so they’ll know, and what you’ve accomplished so they will understand they they can do it too! Suffering is a part of life, and so is all the sweetness. Tell it all, Include your humanity and give those you love a really accurate picture. You can do it! We can help, or do it for you. We can show you how to do it yourself. Let’s talk about it.
